The birth of Provincial Inspection Team (PIT) dates back to 1984 when the then Governor NWFP was pleased to constitute the M.L.A Inspection Team with the composition of a Chairman and two members. The provincial government vide its notification re-designated the it to the Provincial Inspection Team in 1985 with the same the composition. The elaborate functions and duties were the duties and functions were notified in the same year. There upon PIT began performing its respective tasks with zeal and commitment. PIT received directions from time to time by the provincial government and using various notifications it continuously amended and framed its internal procedures and processes. After the devolution in 2001 PIT was honored to perform and coordinate its activities with the Governor Inspection Team (GIT) and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Regional Accountability Bureau (RAB) and in the same years the PIT was merged with the GIT as per the directions of the then Governor NWFP. In 2003, PIT’s previous status was once again restored. The same year provincial govt. was pleased to declare Provincial Inspection Team as the attached department to the then Establishment and Administration (E&A) Department and the Chairman was made the head of the department. Later, the Chairman PIT was declared as Ex-Officio Secretary to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa having all the administrative and financial powers. In 2009 the provincial government was pleased to convey its directions of addressing all the inquiries related to PIT to the Principal Secretary to Honorable Chief Minister of the province. .
